Q

What would be your evaluation for the first point for the statement Applying material from item A analyse two ways in which a spiritual revolution is occurring?

A

The british Attitudes survey from 1983 to 2000 shows that both church attendance and belief in God is declining. If Davis were right. We would expect to see higher levels of belief. Also from the Survey of Uk among most secular nations shows that those who believe in God or a higher power was in Nigeria 100% and 67% in Britiain. Showing davis fails to explain this.

Q

What would be your first point for the question Outline and Explain two criticisms of secularization theory?

A

Religious market theory critques secularisation theory, which is eurocentric, as it fails to explain religions continuing vitality in America and elsewhere. There wasn’t a golden age of religion and not everyone will be an atheist. It is one sided because it sees a decline, but ignores the growth of new religions and religious revivals.

Q

What would be your example for first point for the question Outline and Explain two criticisms of secularization theory?

A

Religion is attractive as it provides us with compensators when real awards are unattainable. This encourages competition, to be answerable to consumers. This explains why in the USA, religion is strong as demand increases when there is choice. Allowing to meet needs of consumers. This is contrasted with religious monopolies ( CofE), has led to decline.
