questions on the course and the medical school Flashcards

Q

why do you wish to study at this medical school

A

what drew me to Plymouth university is the fact that students have the opportunity to work closely with the community via “Well connected”- a local charity concerned with health improvement and community engagement.,

By doing this, the students get to understand the people who will eventually become their patients. This, therefore, results in a better quality of patient care as they understand what their needs are - which is incredibly important as a doctor. On top of this, doctors learn more about the local services which again they will potentially be working closely within the future in order to better promote health in communities that they choose to work in.

On top of this, students have early access to clinical placements in primary care in their first year. Not only do these placements involve GPs, but it also involves rehabilitation centres and schools for children with disabilities. As primary care is concerned with often the first point of contact that a patient will experience, students will be able to learn how to speak and interact with patients very early on in the course. Furthermore, students will be exposed to a broader range of issues as primary care is based on the caring of people rather than specific diseases- which can lead to students picking up skills such as flexibility, critical thinking e.t.c.

The curriculum is also designed to spiral in which students will always be resisting a building u[pon previous knowledge. This approach of interleaved learning allows students to acquire new skills while further improving upon existing abilities.
