From only doing undergraduate training in hospital, why might this impact your clinical judgement in GP work?
hospitals are the peak of the ice berg of care. you will see a narrow spectrum of presentations in hospitals therefore this may give a distorted view of the presenting illness in primary care.
give 3 examples of safety netting?
if uncertainty remains then this should be communicated to the patient. they must know what to look out for and be told exactly how to seek help for any given outcome.
arrange a follow up face to face or phone call consultation
they should know what to expect about the time course of illness/recovery. it should be made clear that if the patient or family member has any concern then they shouldn’t hesitate to seek further medical advice
regarding pregnancy, what are 2 ethical, psychological and social factors which may be considered by the mother?
ethical - any beliefs about termination , religious beliefs
psychological - anxiety about being a parent, anxiety about termination
social - social life will drastically change after being a parent and will she have enough social support
what factors would a GP discuss with a pregnant woman to advice on the wellbeing of the foetus?
smoking and alcohol infectious diseases i.e. ToRCH illicit drug use prescribed medication over the counter medications/ herbal remedies X-rays dietary factors i.e. lack of folic acid
