Chapters 1-2: Why do you think Ponyboy loves going to the movies? What role do the movies play in your life? What do movies do for Ponyboy?
Ponyboy loves going to the movies to escape from reality, so he can have peace and get into his own world.
Movies provide me with a world to escape to and become intrigued ands sometimes I feel as I am in the move, being apart of it.
Ponyboy gets really into the movies and to live with the actors, so he can forget about all his worries and stresses the the current moment as a greaser.
Chapters 1-2: What does Ponyboy mean when he says that he does well in school but ‘doesn’t use his head’?
Ponyboy does well in his assessments, he’s smart and understands what the work is, but sometimes he does things without thinking.
Chapters 1-2: What are some of the reasons Ponyboy gives for Darry’s strict rules? Why doesn’t Ponyboy think Darry loves him?
Ponyboys’ parents have died and Darry has taken charge of the three brothers - acting like a parent, because he is the oldest out of the three. Darry doesn’t want Ponyboy to get into trouble, and he wants Pony to do well in school so he can have a better life.
Ponyboy doesn’t think Darry loves him because Darry is very strict with Pony, like he yells at him and gets mad at Pony often. Pony feels that Darry treats him like a 6 year old instead of a 14 year old.
Chapters 1-2: What is Johnny’s life at home like? What do the greasers give Johnny that he doesn’t experience at home.
Johnny gets beaten up by his father and his mother is also disrespectful to Johnny, they don’t even care if Johnny comes home or not.
The greasers include Johnny and try to make him feel happy because they are friends and they know Johnny is having it tough, so they want to be there and support him.
Chapters 1-2: How does Ponyboy feel when the Socs tease him.
Pony feels helpless, because no one was there to help him while he was getting attacked by the Socs.
Chapters 3-4: Why are greasers and Socs so concerned about their reputation? How are they seen by society?
Greasers and Socs don’t want to be made fun of, so they usually stick with their gang and both gangs have different stereotypes about the other.
- Greasers are seen as people who usually have long hair with grease in it. They aren’t filthy rich and don’t dress as nice as Socs.
- Socs are seen as all done up with nice clothes and cars, being rich or well off.
Chapters 3-4: Why does Ponyboy dream about the country?
It’s Pony’s ideal place to live and he imagines being there with his parents.
Chapters 3-4: Why does Ponyboy think Dally could never love anyone else or anything?
Darry’s self-preservation hardened him beyond caring, Dally is this strong, aggressive guy, who has so much hatred.
Chapters 3-4: Why does Ponyboy feel bad when he talks about his home life to Johnny?
Ponyboy fells bad because Johnny has his homelife way worse than Pony, because Johnny gets beaten up and isn’t wanted in his home.
Chapters 3-4: What does Ponyboy believe isn’t fair about being a greaser?
Greasers are seen as scrawny and less fortunate with money than other people like the Socs, who are viewed as rich.
