Persuasive speech
A persuasive speech is one where the speaker has a speafic goal: to convince the audience of their point of view. must be arranged in a logical order.
Everything in the speech, from the structure to the content and the mood must aid this goal. The structure The beginning of the speech should relate the topic to the audience, perhaps identifying a problem the audience faces.
Then the main body of the speech should contain main points which link together with logic and show how your point of view benefits the audience. They should also include evidence to back your points such as statistics, quotes from authoritative people and definite science-based facts.
The end of the speech should conclude your points and ask your audience to take relevant action, leaving your audience with the firm belief that your view is the correct one.
Informative Speech
An informative speech is where a knowledgeable speaker gives information on a particular subject to their audience. There are three types of informative speeches: narration, description and exposition. These types can be mixed within one speech.
The speaker must do thorough unbiased research on the topic. It should contain facts in a logical order, unbiased information and create curiosity in the audience. The success of this speech will depend on how much the audience understands the subject at the end of the speech.
Political speech
A political speech is one which deals with matters of public concern. It will most likely be biased as the speech will encourage an audience to take the same point of view as the speaker.
A political speech can refer to numerous topics such as healthcare, world events, immigration and political candidates amongst many others.
Humorous speech
A humorous speech uses humour to communicate the speakers message to the audience.
The speaker will entertain their audience using verbal and/or physical humour which relates to their audience so it is impactful.
It is difficult to get right, so the speaker must understand it’s complexity and techniques such as the use of pausing.
A vote of thanks
A Vote of thanks is a short formal speech in which the speaker thanks somebody- most often the main speaker, or concludes the main speaker’s address.
It tends to begin by recapping the original title of the speech, briefly highlighting a main point and adding to it with a short personal anecdote, saying something kind about the main speaker and finally saying key closing words which are addressed to the main speaker.
How do you prepare and deliver your impromptu speech?
- I split my preparation time in the sections
- I took 3 minutes to decide what topic I would talk about which was … and more specifically I talked about … I then decided the audience and why I chose … with the purpose of ….
- In the next 4 minutes I planned my main 3 points which were …. And then I planned what I would include in my introduction and conclusion to capture my audiences attention and I chose …
- Then I had 8 minutes left where I delved into my 3 points in greater detail - I had 5 more cards I used for the intro, point 1, point 2, point 3, and conclusion where I wrote bullet points for what I would include
- In the last few minutes I rehearsed using my note cards and bullet points in order to practice my structure and navigate through any obvious mistakes
- When I delivered my speech I followed my note card structure used eye contact with my imagine audience, used an appropriate pace and used pausing to allow my audience to think and also for me to stay in front ok of the speech

What techniques are required for effective audience engagement and what are their benefits to speech delivery
Effective audience engagement relies on blending several techniques.
- Using note cards efficiently allows for structured thoughts without breaking connection -> for instance I referred to them to rain confident in my speech
- Voice modulation keeps your speech dynamic, helping emphasize key points.
- Body language adds a layer of meaning and energy, while facial expressions build rapport and convey emotions. -> using my hands to exaggerate something
- Altogether, these methods make your speech lively and memorable, encouraging audience connection and understanding.
