Rhetoric question
A question asked without the need of an answer
Variation of tone
When a speaker includes light and shade into their voice. The quality of tone alters according to the feelings, which helps the listeners to recognise the mood of the speaker regardless of words spoken.
Inflection
Refers to the rise and fall in pitch of the voice during speech. A speaker may use a rising or falling tune depending on the meaning of each line. It is especially important at the end of lines, making it a rising or falling inflection. These indicate different things such as questions, uncertainty or statements.
Pace
How fast it slow the speaker appears to be speaking. Pace will be effective if it is varied as variations is integral to the communication of meaning and mood.
Volume
Refers to the level of loudness or softness with which words are spoken
How is a rhetoric question effectively used
- If used effectively it will make the audience think
- it will also make the audience think they came to the conclusion themselves and so an effective persuasion technique
- often an answer will be obvious so it’ll effectively emphasise a particular point
How is a variation in tone effectively used
Would be effective is consistently changed throughout the speech, bringing mood to life and engaging the audience
How is inflection effectively used
Used effectively if used flexibly, to reveal subtle changes in moods
How is pace effectively used
Will be effective if varied, variation is integral to the communication of meaning and mood
How is volume effectively used
Will be effective if there are constant changes of volume to create a well-modulated delivery
