when to use quel (ms), quelle (fs), quels (mp), quelles (fp) when asking a question
quel = what/which
- must be followed with a noun or verb être
- must agree with the noun
Examples:
quel livre est-ce que tu lis? quel livre lisez-vous?
what BOOKS are you reading?
quel est votre problème?
what is your problem
when to use que/qui when asking a question
qui/que = who/what/which
- followed by an inversion of subject and verb

que préfères-tu?
what do you prefer?
qui aimes-tu le plus?
who do you like more?
when to use qu’est ce que/qu’est ce qui when asking a question
qu’est ce que = what
qu’est ce qui = who
- followed by normal subject-verb order

when to use quoi
quoi = what
- used when there is a preposition or informally
what did you do on the weekend?
qu’est ce que tu as fait ce weekend?
tu as fait quoi ce weekend? (you did what)
