- question style can be too open
- invasion of privacy
- no category for ‘don’t know’ etc
- practical problems e.g timing, getting people to respond, who to select

A
- most widely used primary data collection especially in human geography
- allows you to collect active data
- collect attitudinal data
- unique in finding out opinions
- information is up to date and can be compared against historical data
