How to Answer 2 source comparison
The question will be worth 10 marks – you will have 25 minutes to answer this question. You will always be asked to compare two sources. Sometimes they will agree; sometimes they will offer two different perspectives.
- 4 Marks for idenifcation of points from the source(2 each)(paraphrase)
- 6 Marks for points relating to the issue, that are missing from the sources (3 each)
How to Answer Evaluate The Usefulness
The question will be worth 8 marks and you should complete it in around 20 mins.
* Always a contemporary source
* 4 marks can be given for evaluative comments relating to author, type of source, purpose and timing
* 2 marks may be given for evaluative comments relating to the content of the source.
* 3 marks may be given for evaluative comments relating to points of significant omission** - e.g. stuff that’s not mentioned.**
How to Answer Explain
- This is a knowledge only question, no source.
- Worth 8 marks
- Spend no more than about 16 minutes on this
answer - Always refer to the question each time you
include evidence to support your answer.
EXAMPLE:
“There were many reasons why the Darien
Scheme failed. One reason is…”
How to Answer How Fully
The question will be worth 10 marks – you will have 25 minutes to answer this question.
You must make an opening judgement about the extent to which the source provides a full explanation of a given event of development, for example “Source A explains the worsening relations between Scotland and England in the 1690s quite fully.” If you
don’t do this you can only gain 2 marks for the whole answer!!!
- 4 marks for identification of points from the source that support your judgement. (Paraphrase, or quote and explain)
- 6 Marks for Demonstrating your wider knowledge of the issue by identifying other points relating to the issue which are omitted from the source.
