How do you answer a ‘state/give/name/identify’ question?

A
  • One word answers (1mk each) - ensure that you give enough answers to get all of the mks.
  • Ex: Give 3 natural fibres
    Ans: Cotton, silk and wool.

How do you answer a ‘describe/explain/give reasons’ question?

A
  • Give points which MUST relate back to the question (1mk each) - ensure you give enough points for the number of
  • Ex. Describe one way a sports top could be embellished.
    Ans: A logo relating to sport could be embroidered on the front of the top.

How do you answer an ‘evaluate’ question?

A

For these questions you must do three things:
- FACT - this must relate to the context of the question
- JUDGEMENT - is this good /bad/suitable/unsuitable
- IMPACT - why this matters - relating to the question

Ex. Evaluate the suitability of 95% cotton/5% elastane fabric for a sports top.
Ans: Cotton is very absorbent,
(FACT) so this fabric will soak up sweat which may occur during exercise (IMPACT), making it a good choice (JUDGEMENT).
