Mechanical reproduction by Benjamin
Accomplished through the use of technology and without the ritualistic procedures of traditional production of art.
Aura
This is the authenticity of the piece that gives it this unique quality. The essence of the artwork.
Benjamin on Mechanical reproduction
Mechanical reproduction doesn’t have or depreciate the aura of art. This is because replicas do not hold the same cultural or historical significance, nor the history of the original. Also, mechanical reproduction loses the ritualistic processes that might give handmade replicas more aura.

1 its exoteric: made with the intention of selling it to lots of people
2 its accessible, multiple replicas are made so can be viewed from multiple reception sites simultaneously
3 its digestible. Because it lacks authenticity, the audience doesn’t view it the same way as the original, it’s a more shallow appreciation.
