What are the three assumptions of the psychodynamic approach?

What are the three layers of the unconscious mind?
- conscious
- pre conscious
- unconscious
What is the conscious mind ?
When the mind is fully aware and in the present remaining logical.
What is the preconscious mind?
In the middle of the conscious and unconscious, where we can remember things if we really tried to. The unconscious mind can sometimes slip through e.g. freudien slip
What is the unconscious mind?
When we are completely unaware as our driven through seeking pleasure and our desires can be released without affecting the real world. The id is apart of this.
What do the psychosexual stages represent ?
a fixation of libido
List all the psychosexual stages and their source of pleasure
- oral (sucking)
- anal (withholding)
- phalic (masturbation)
- latency (no sexual motivation)
- genital (intercourse)
What is frustration caused by
When a child’s needs have not been met at a stage
what is overindulge caused by?
When the child’s needs have been more than satisfied at a stage and don’t want to move on to the next stage
What is the tripartite personality
Where the adult personality is split into three parts
What is the id?
- found in the unconscious mind
It is pleasure seeking and demand immediate satisfaction of our impulses
What is the ego?
The rational part, focused on balancing the demands of the id in a socially acceptable way
What is the superego ?
embodies the knowing of right and wrong, working to perfect and civilise our behaviour
