Q

What did Louis de Broglie theorise?

A

If wavelike light shows particle properties through photons, electrons should show wavelike properties.
Electrons should show quantum behaviour. This was confirmed by the fact that the final phasors of each path could be added to find the quantum probability.

Q

How can Young’s Double Slit experiment be adapted for electrons?

A

Electrons are sent one at a time through a slit. As they hit the screen, a photon is released, showing bright fringes where the probability of electrons reaching is high, and dark fringes where it’s low. The screen is fluorescent. They are accelerated by vacuum through graphite crystal spaces, leading to diffraction.

What impact does increasing accelerating voltage have?

A

Increases velocity, and so circles will squash towards the middle, reducing wavelength and spread of circles.
