QUANTITATIVE RESEARCH Flashcards
What is quantitative research?
The collection and analysis of numerical data to describe, explain, predict, or control phenomena of interest.
when do you use quantitative research?
GOES BY YOUR RESEARCH QUESTION AND WHAT RESULTS YOU ARE LOOKING FOR. Used when one wants to measure variables, assess the impact of these variables on an outcome, test theories or broad explanations, or apply results to a large number of people.
what are some methods that can be used in quantitative research?
Experimental , Correlational ,Survey:
what is experimental?
test and idea to determine
whether it influences and outcome or dependent variable. Used to establish cause and effect.
Random assignment = true experiment.
what is correlational?
Predict scores and explain the relationship among variables. Describe and measure the degree of association between two or more variables. Used when you wish to see if two or more variables influence each other.
what is a survey?
survey a sample of or entire population to describe attitudes, opinions, behaviors, or characteristics of population. Used when want to describe trends, find opinions, or beliefs.
what are the benefits of quantitative research?
Large sample size, with ability to generalize. Based in numbers and many enjoy this stability and reliability.
what are the liabilities of quantitative research?
Not much knowledge of participants FULL thoughts. Cannot look in-depth, this is just scratching the surface. Forced responses may yield an inaccurate result or idea.
