Quantitative Data (Vocab) Flashcards
Independent Variable
The data that is being changed or altered in order to identify a trend
Dependent Variable
The data that is gathered from the experiment
Research Question
Open ended questions (often with answers in the grey, not black and white)
Hypothesis
Testable statement + prediction about the relationship of two or more variables
Null Hypothesis
An experiment where the IV does not have any impact on the DV
Extraneous Variables
Variables that may have an influence over the results that are formulated
Positive correlation
Both variables are affected in the same way (e.g. x increased, y increases)
Negative Correlation
Variables have no relation in how they are affected (e.g. y decrease, x increase)
Bidirectional Ambiguity
No direct or certain cause and effect (unclear to which direction a relationship is going)
