Quantitative chemistry(chemistry maths) Flashcards
On the periodic table, what is the number above the element?
Mass
On the periodic table, what is the number below the element?
atomic(proton)
What is an isotope?
An atom of the same element that have the same number of protons and electrons but diff number of neutrons.
What is the relative atomic mass(Ar)?
An average value for the isotopes of that element.
How do you work out the relative atomic mass(Ar)?
Sum of the relative atomic masses of the atoms in that formula.
1 mole of a substance is simply the _ _ _ _ _ _ _ mass of a _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ in _ _ _ _ _.
Formula, compound, grams.
A _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ formula shows us the TOTAL number of each type of atom in a compound.
Molecular.
An _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ formula shows the simplest whole number ratio of each type of atom in a compound.
Empirical.
How do you calculate the Empirical formula?
EMMR(element, mass, moles, ratio)
What is a reversible reaction?
Reactions that can go forwards and backwards.
How do you work out the ‘percentage yield’?
What you made divided by what you SHOULD make all times by 100.
Name 4 reasons why we don’t get 100% yield.
- Some products are lost during separation process.
- The reaction may be reversible.
- May react in different ways.
- May not fully react.
