Quantitative Chemistry Flashcards
Molar Mass
The mass in grams of one mole of that substance.
What is a mole?
A mole is the SI unit for amount of substance.
How many particles are in one mole?
Avogadro’s number of particles (Na = 6,02 x 10^23 mol^-1).
What are standard conditions for 1 mole?
Gas = 22,4 dm^3 at STP
Temperature = 0 degrees Celsius (273 K)
Pressure = 1 atm/atmosphere (101,3 kPa)
Molar Concentration
The amount of solute per unit volume of solution.
What is a solution?
A homogenous mixture of solute and solvent.
What is a solute?
The substance that is dissolved in the solution.
What is a solvent?
The substance in which another substance is dissolved, forming a solution.
What is the SI unit for molar concentration?
mol/dm^3 or mol.dm^3
What is percentage yield (% yield)?
A measure of the extent of a reaction, determined by comparing the actual amount of product to the theoretical amount of product, expressed as a percentage.
