Quantitative Chemistry Flashcards
1
Q
What does the conservation of mass mean?
A
During a chemical reaction no atoms are destroyed and no atoms are created. This means there are the same number and type of atoms on each side of a reaction equation. No mass is lost or gained - we say that mass is conserved during a reaction.
2
Q
Suggest why the mass of a vessel might decrease during a reaction.
A
One of the products is a gas and all the reactants are solids, liquids or aqueous.
3
Q
What is meant by the term ‘limiting reactant’?
A
A reactant that is used up in a reaction.
4
Q
What is concentration?
A
Concentration is the amount of a substance in a certain volume of solution.
