What is FMEA?
Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA) is a structured way of identifying potential problems and their effects before an adverse event occurs
What are quality circles?
Small groups of workers of different levels in the firm (managers, assembly line, etc.) who discuss and solves problems in production
What is Pareto analysis?
A decision-making tool to decide which course of action is most effective based on the benefits it would have
What is the 80/20 (aka the Pareto principle)?
A principle stating around 80% of effects come from 20% of causes
What is the Ishikawa (fishbone) diagram officially called? What does it show?
A cause and effect diagram
Displays possible root causes of a problem
What are advantages and disadvantages of FMEA?
Advantages: good communication tool
Disadvantages: subjective, time consuming
What are advantages and disadvantages of quality circles?
Advantages: increases quality, increased productivity
Disadvantages: not really empowered to make decisions
What are advantages and disadvantages of Pareto analysis?
Advantages: clearly shows significant and insignificant variables
Disadvantages: Doesn’t identify what is causing problem
What are advantages and disadvantages of cause and effect diagrams?
Advantages: easily constructed/understood
Disadvantages: data is not verified
