Quality Control of X-ray Producing Equiptment Flashcards
Quality assurance
Complete program in a radiology department that addresses all aspects of quality including customer service, image interpretation, accuracy of diagnostics, and distribution of radiologists’ reports
Quality Control
Program that specificially addresses the safe and reliable operation of equiptment
Testing of filtration-beam quality
Tested using a digital dosimeter; half value measurement is required
Collimator guidelines
Must be accurate within 2% of SID
Effective focal-spot size guidelines
Should be within 50% of size stated in equiptment specifications; measured by using slit camera, pinhole camera, or star test pattern
kVp guidelines
Must be accurate to within 4 kVp of that chosen
Exposure linearity guideline
Various mA-time combinations for a given mAs are checked; adjacent mA stations must be within 10% of one another
Exposure reproducibility guidelines
Tests kVp, mA, and time in succession exposures; variation in measured radiation intensity should not be more than 5%
AEC
Tested to verify reproducibility of exposure, with phantoms used to simulate variations in patient thickness
Fluoroscopy exposure rate guideline
Entrance of skin dose should not be more than 5 rads per minute
