Advantages
Prevents faulty products meeting the customer
Prevents widespread problems across the business and waste
Guaranteed customer satisfaction and no bad publicity
Disadvantages
Individuals are not necessarily encouraged to take responsibility for the quality of their work
Rejected products are expenditure the business
If defect levels are high profitability will fall

Trying to prevent mistakes (lean production) and checking each stage (TQM)
Quality control
Inspecting products to ensure that they meet the quality requirements

No. Of rejected goods divided by the total no. Produced x 100
Benen marking
Standard aiming for trying to use best practice for/in the industry to improve products (May not be able to facilitate it and there may be down time)

1 create constancy of purpose for improving products and services
