What is Quality Control?
A set of lab procedures
- Testing known samples
- Charting results
- Statistical analysis of results
(manducates procedures must be followed)
What are terms of equipment control?
-equipment must be monitored daily or weekly to be maintained
-any temp variance may affect the patient’s results
what is medical agar and how can it be acquired?
-can be made
-purchased from companies
-donated by local hospitals
-known stock cultures, used to check for growth and correct biochemical reactions of medicines
What is Reagent control?
-tested by utilizing positive/negative controls
-the quality of gram stain reagents is checked with known bacteria cultures
What is antimicrobial disc control?
-susceptibility discs should be checked against known bacterial cultures and the sensitivities compared with the manufacturer’s results
Why must specific protocols be followed for specimen collection and control?
Specific protocols must be followed for the proper collecting of clients specimens
Why is quality control important?
Lab results are not accepted if the quality control is not within established parameters
How often should quality control be run?
at least once per shift
