Quality Flashcards
What is the quality of a medical image determined by?
- Imaging method
- The characteristics of the equipment
- Imaging variables selected by the operator
What are the 5 factors of Image quality?
- Contrast
- Blur
- Noise
- Artifacts
- Distortion
What is the task of every imaging system?
Translate a specific tissue characteristic into image shades of gray or colour
What happens when the contrast is adequate?
The object will be visible
What does the degree of contrast in the image depend on?
Characteristic of both the object and imaging system
What are the different form of contrast in an image?
Different shades of;
- Gray
- Light intensities
- Colors
What is the most fundamental characteristic of an image?
Contrast
When is an object within the body visible in an image?
Sufficient physical contrast relative to surrounding tissue
What must the physical contrast of an object represent?
Difference in one or more tissue characteristics
In radiography what can objects be imaged relative to?
- Surrounding tissue
- If there is adequate difference in either density or atomic number
- Object is sufficiently thick
