Q

after carrying out the halide tests, what do you do to tell the halides apart?

A

add the aqueous ammonia solution
AgCl- soluble in dilute
AgBr- soluble in conc

Q

What is the order of tests for anions?

A

Carbonate tests- add CO3 in excess until bubbling stops

Sulfate tests- add Ba(NO3)2 in excess then filter out BaSO4

Then do halide tests

Ammonium- add NaOH- warm damp red litmus paper at lip of boiling tube and this should turn blue
