intermolecular forces Flashcards

1
Q

Permanent Dipole-Dipole

A

-due to an attraction between molecules with dipoles/ there is polarity
-the greater difference in electronegativity, the greater the strength of the dipole-dipole force

Q

London Forces

A

-due to moving electrons results in temporary dipoles
-induces neighbouring dipole in such a way that one end of the dipole is attracted to the other
-larger the molecule, stronger the force because there are more electrons, so more points of contact
-weakest forces
