What are the clinical features of quadriceps tendon rupture?
A
- popping/tearing sensation in knee
- pain in anterior knee
- difficult to weight bear
- swelling
- tender above superior pole of patella
- inability to straight leg raise
- inability to extend knee

What sort of injury mechanism would cause quadriceps tendon rupture?
A
- sudden excessive loading of quadriceps muscles - landing from jumping

What are the differential diagnosis for quadriceps tendon rupture?
A
- patella tendon rupture
- patella #
- femoral shaft #

What Ix would you order for QTR?
A
- clinically diagnosed
- Plain ragiograph of knee - displaced patella
- USS - definitive
- MRI - if uncertain

How would you mx QTR?
A
Partial tears
- immobilisation of knee joint
- intensive rehab
Complete tear
- tear at insertion point: longitudinal drill holes or suture anchors
- intra-tendinous tears: end to end sutures
- immobilised in brace postoperatively for 6 weeks
