Quadricep muscles of the knee Flashcards
Name the 4 main quadriceps muscles
Recus femoris
Vastus medialis
Vastus intermedius
Vastus lateralis
State the origin and insertion of rectus femoris and the nerve supply
Origins- 2 heads
Straight head: AIIS
Reflected head: rough area of ilium, superior to acetabulum.
Nerve supply: Femoral nerve L2,3,4
Insertion:
2 heads joint quadriceps femoris tendon which inserts into base of patella.
What is the function of rectus femoris?
It extends the knee and flexes the hip.
Which muscle originates from the upper 2/3 of the femur and is located on the anterior and lateral surfaces?
Vastus intermedius
Which muscle originates from the femur-medial part of the intertrochanteric line, pectineal line, medial lip of Inea aspera, medial supracondylar line?
Vastus medialus
Which muscle is inserted from the quadriceps tendon and lateral margin of patella?
Vastus lateralis
State the insertion of VI?
Quadriceps tendon (deep part) and lateral border of patella
State the insertion of VM?
Quadriceps tendon and medial border of patella
State the origin of VL
Lateral part of intertrochanteric line, lateral margin of greater trochanter, lateral margin gluteal tuberosity, lateral li linea aspera.
What is the function of the vlasti muscles? State the nerve supply.
All three Vasti muscles extend the knee joint.
Femoral nerve L2,3,4
