What is QTC

A

The overall Q of the speaker. This is the driver and Q + the box Q

QTC= Q of box + QTS (total Q of the driver)

Remember to get QTS you add QMS + QES

What is QTC 0.5

A

Linkwitz-Riley. Also known as “overdamped”

-very goood low end extension
-perfect transients
-low output volume

Great for a big box and transient response

A

Butterworth.

-good transients
- maximal flat response
-minimal cut off

Best blend of box size, good transient response and frequency response.

What is QTC=0.7 - 1.2

A

Chebyshev

  • Better efficiency
  • degraded transients
  • steep roll off

Between 0.8 and 0.9 to use a smaller box with a punchy sound.

Problems with QTC 1.2?

A

Known as underdamped.

This will create a peak in the frequency response that will go above 3db and end up becoming a one note subwoofer.
