QTC Flashcards
What is QTC
The overall Q of the speaker. This is the driver and Q + the box Q
QTC= Q of box + QTS (total Q of the driver)
Remember to get QTS you add QMS + QES
What is QTC 0.5
Linkwitz-Riley. Also known as “overdamped”
-very goood low end extension
-perfect transients
-low output volume
Great for a big box and transient response
What is QTC=0.707
Butterworth.
-good transients
- maximal flat response
-minimal cut off
Best blend of box size, good transient response and frequency response.
What is QTC=0.7 - 1.2
Chebyshev
- Better efficiency
- degraded transients
- steep roll off
Between 0.8 and 0.9 to use a smaller box with a punchy sound.
Problems with QTC 1.2?
Known as underdamped.
This will create a peak in the frequency response that will go above 3db and end up becoming a one note subwoofer.
