Q

QRH procedures assume that:

A
  • All systems were normal prior to the failure (consider MELs)
  • actions are performed in the order that the procedure calls for
  • system controls were in normal position (consider MELs)
  • warnings and lights silenced
  • memory items already completed prior to QRH (I.E. donning masks)
  • circuit breakers are not reset unless procedure calls for, or PIC seems necessary.

Q

“On the ground” QRH procedures assume:

A
  • airplane is on the ground
  • parking brake on
  • all normal procedures completed
  • CBs can be reset one by one or all at once
  • CBs can only be reset once
  • all CB resets must be approved my MX

Q

On the ground the PIC calls for QRH and SIC reads aloud the procedure. The only exceptions are:

A
  • evacuation placard is performed by PIC

- Engine start malfunction memory items are performed by the one starting the engine (usually SIC)

Q

It is recommended that in an abnormal/emergency, the ____ is the one flying.

A

Q

Who announces the specific emergency or abnormal situation?

A

The first one who notices it. (I.E. PF notices engine 1 FUEL LO PRESS message. PF would announce “ENGINE 1 FUEL LOW PRESSURE”

Q

When multiple EICAS messages are shown, a root “>” message corrective action is usually completed first. If more than 1 root message is displayed, what becomes the priority order?

A
  1. ) WARNING
  2. ) Electrical bus messages
  3. ) MAU failure

Q

On takeoff, take no action until the flight path and configuration are properly established and altitude is______

A

400AGL minimum, preferable 1,000AGL is situation permits.

-memory items don’t count. They are always immediate

Q

For emergencies/abnormals that occur below flap retraction height, what will the PF do?

A

Fly to flap retraction height, accelerate to flap retraction speed, retract flaps, pitch up, start final climb phase, THEN call for appropriate checklist.

-again, this does not include memory items, which are always immediate.

15
Q

For emergencies/abnormals that occur above flap retraction height, the PF___

A

Will only call for the appropriate checklist once fully diagnosing the problem. TAKE YOUR TIME. (Example: during an engine flame out on the climb, you will see ENG 1(2) OIL LO PRESS message. But you’d want to not run that procedure, instead running the ENG 1(2) FAIL procedure. Again take your time and understand the full situation

Q

What is the one thing NOT to do in an emergency?

A

Hurry.

17
Q

A QRH procedure in all CAPS is:

A

An EICAS message generated procedure

18
Q

A QRH procedure title starting with a capital letter followed by all lower case letters is:

A

A memory item, QRC procedure, and non-annunciated procedures

19
Q

A bolded procedure in the table of contents is a _______

A

Emergency procedure

20
Q

List the EICAS priorities for RED, AMBER, CYAN, WHITE

A

Red-warning
Amber-caution
Cyan-crew advisory
White-status

21
Q

Some EICAS messages do not have a QRH procedure. Corrective action states “Crew awareness message.” No action required. If one of these crew awareness messages are posted on EICAS, takeoff is prohibited unless one of the following conditions are met:

A
  • message is an expect result of intentional operation
  • flight crew action taken to clear message
  • MX personal takes action to clear message
  • airplane is operated in accordance with the MIAC (mechanical irregularity action chart)
22
Q

Aural alerts and voice messages are ______ in the QRH

A

Italicized

23
Q

What does “land as soon as possible” mean?

A

A life threatening condition exists (illness, flight control problem, damage, fire, etc.). Land in accordance with CPS diversion policy. Passenger comfort/convenience will NOT be considered. MX availability will NOT be considered, unless 2 airports are equidistant.

24
Q

What does “land as soon as practical” mean?

A

QRH procedure pertaining to failure/condition is non life threatening. Land at nearest airport in accordance with CPS diversion policy. Passenger comfort/convenience and MX availability is to be considered when choosing airport. BOTH DEPARTURE AIRPORT AND ARRIVAL AIRPORT MAY BE CONSIDERED.

25
Q

If a QRH procedure ends in “continue with normal operations” does it automatically mean everything is ok and to continue to destination?

A

Not necessarily. Consider all factors. (For example, fuel may not be sufficient to reach intended destination, although the QRH says “continue normal operations”)

26
Q

In addition to emergency/abnormal procedures. There are also performance tables in the QRH. What chapter?

A

17

18 is EWT American Eagle ops

27
Q

What is QRH chapter 19 for?

A

Commonly used info from other manuals for quick reference. (Takes highlights from the FOM and OPSSPECS for quick access. Things like MIAC, cold WX ops, instrument approach requirements, miscellaneous)
