What is the difference between an MMEL and an MEL?
- MMEL (master minimum equipment list) is an FAA approved list of certain items that have been determined safe to operate the aircraft if they are inop. The MMEL is a general list for a specific aircraft type (E-175).
- MEL (minimum equipment list) is a list derived from the MMEL, but is custom tailored for a carriers specific needs (Compass, west coast flying needs).
An operators MEL may be less restrictive than the FAA MMEL. True or false?
False. An MEL can never be less restrictive than an MMEL.
What are NEF items?
Non essential furnishings. They are not in the MEL or CDL and do not affect the safety of flight if inoperative.
The MEL repair categories are A, B, C, and D. What does each mean?
A-must be repaired within time specified in “remarks or exemptions” section or if time is the determining factor, must be repaired same day item was recorded.
B-3 consecutive calendar days, excluding the day the malfunction was noted.
C-10 consecutive calendar days, excluding the day the malfunction was noted
D-120 consecutive calendar days, excluding the day the malfunction was noted.
What is the difference between an “O” item and an “M” item in the logbook?
O- Pilot can check item himself and flight crew accomplishes action
M- Maintenance must check and accomplish action
What does “M/FC” mean in the logbook?
A required action may be completed by the flight crew (only with MX guidance/permission) or can be accomplished by MX directly.
