Actions
Nourishes the yin and vents heat
Indications
night fever and morning coolness with no sweating as the fever recedes
emaciation with no loss of appetite

P: thin, rapid
Diagnostic Pattern
Heat lurking in the yin aspects of the body. It usually occurs during the later stages of a warm-heat pathogen disease when the heat has depleted the yin and fluids.
Herbs
biē jiă
qīng hāo
sheng dì huáng
zhī mŭ
mŭ dān pí
biē jiă
salty, cold
directly enters the yin to enrich the yin and reduce the fever from deficiency
enter the collaterals, track down pathogens, actively clear heat from the deepest yin aspect of the body
unable to issue through the yang aspect, able to do so under the guidance of qīng hāo
qīng hāo
vents heat and expels it from the body
unable to enter into the yin directly, is able to do so under the guidance of biē jiă
sheng dì huáng
zhī mŭ
nourish the yin, clear heat from deficiency
mŭ dān pí
drains heat from the yin, assists qīng hāo in venting and dispersing heat
Cautions and Contraindications
Contraindicated in early stages of warm-heat pathogen disease, when pathogenic influence is still in the qi level, also in cases with spasms or convulsions.
