Q5 Hip Joint 3 Flashcards
State the type of joint
Synovial, poly-axial joint
capable of 3 degrees of movement
Give attachments of capsule
acetabulum labrum and transverse ligament
Base of neck of femur
intertrochanteric crest posteriorly
intertrochanteric line anteriorly
Name movements which occur at this joint
flexion and extension
adduction and abduction
medial and lateral rotation
(Plus circumduction as a combined movement)
Give factors that limit the range of movement
Flexion- soft tissue apposition of thigh to abdominals, tension in Gluteus maximus or hamstrings
Extension- tension in the Rectus femoris or iliopsoas, Iliofemoral ligament
Abduction- tension in adductor group, Greater trochanter meeting pelvis Pubofemoral ligt
Adduction- other leg(soft tissue) tension in antagonists Lateral band of iliofemoral ligt
Lateral Rotation- tension on medial rotators and iliofemoralfemoral ligament
Medial Rotation- tension in lateral rotators and ischiofemoral femoral ligament
