Q5 Flashcards
Q5a(i) use the information from the graph to describe the correlation between type 2 diabetes and body mass shown from 1993 to 2000
In the graph, body mass and type 2 diabetes have a positive correlation. When body mass increase so does the percentage of people with type two diabetes. It can be shown in 1996 the body mass was nearly at 75kg whereas the percentage was at 5.5%
Q5a(ii) suggest how a change in body mass may cause a person to develop type 2 diabetes
The increasing body mass levels leads ti being overweight and obese meaning it doesn’t respond to insulin
Q5b(i) use the BMI to calculate the body mass for a person with a body mass of 78kg and a height of 1.7m
78/1.7^2=26.9 (27.0 1dp)
Q5b(ii) The BMI category for this person is
Overweight
Q5c(i) describe how the human body acts in response to low glucose levels in the blood
Low glucose levels are detected by the pancreas, which in response realise glucagon inti the blood stream. This is fetched by the liver and the liver converts the glucagon into glucose, and increasing glucose levels until they are normal level.
