Q & A Flashcards
What are the characteristics
of living things? List all 6
Adaptation- Reproduction- Made up of cells- Obtain and use energy- Grow and Develop- Respond to the environment.
What are cells?
The basic unit of life. Makes up all living things, some organisms have millions while others have one.
What is energy?
Everything an organism does requires energy
Sleeping, eating, breathing, thinking, blinking - it all
requires energy
Energy makes things move or change
Animals → obtain energy from other organisms
Plants → use photosynthesis
What is growth and development?
- Growth involves changes to our structure
e.g., getting taller, muscles getting bigger - It also involves the process of replacing old
and worn-out cells
What is responding to the environment
Stimulus = anything that causes a response in an
organism
- Response = what happens when we react to the
stimulus
What is reproduction?
- All living things come from other living
things - This happens through mitosis and
meiosis
All living things will
eventually die so it is necessary for
them not to go extinct
