It was good due to the island. Bad due to water because it was sweet and salty. There were lakes which had mosquitos and gave malaria, yellow fever, etc.

After the colony was failing, John Smith took over the settlement. He was a mercenary a former soldier and was in his late 20s which was high middle age back then. He organized everything and created basic rules for example “You don’t work, you don’t eat”.

The British thought they had a claim over the territory because an explorer named John Cabot mapped the area and gave it to the British.

The French had been traded for a while with Native Americans and thought it belonged ti them because of that.

They chose the French because they had been trading with them and the french didn’t want to build colonies on their land.

Needed to pay off the war. Navy and protection were expensive. Wanted everything to be fair and pay the same amount of taxes. Had to pay to keep their territories and build in their territories.

He was sent by Virginia to the Ohio valley to see what was going on to negotiate. George Washington decided to attack instead of negotiate. He lost and was forced to sign a document mentioning that the land belonged to the French.

Americans were upset they had to pay taxes and had no representatives in the House of Comments.
