Pythagoras Theorem Flashcards
What is the formula for Pythagorean’s thoerem?
A2 + b2 = c2
What is a hypotenuse and what is an example of it?
Hypotenuse: The longest side is called the hypotenuse (opposite side angle) . Always label the hypotenuse side C and the 2 shorter sides are labelled a and b.
Example, To find the C length this is the formula.
C2 = a2+b2
= 5.2+12.2
= 25+144
C2= 169
Then you need to square it to get the final answer which is 13.
What is the formula to find the shorter side on a hypotenuse triangle?
A2 = C2 - B2
To find the short side you take away the known short side from the hypotenuse side.
What are the steps to solving a word problem?
Step 1: Read the question
Step 2: Read the question again and highlight any important information
Step 3: Draw a diagram
Step 4: Write the rule
Step 5: Substitute relevant values into the rule
Step 6: Solve
Step 7: State your answer
How do you fund the short sides with only algebra?
1: Draw a diagram of the traingle with the lengths.
2: Put the lengths into the formula with the C side squared.
3: Depending on how many X’s there is THATS how many you need to divide the C side by.
For example, 2x + x = 81, there’s 3 x’s so divide 81 by 3.
4: That then equals to 27 then you need to multiply by the amount of x’s. For example, there’s 2 x’s in the first part so times 27 by 2 equals to 54. Do the same to the other side but as it has one x only need to times 27 by one.
5: Finally then you need to square root those answers to get the final answer.
