What is the other name for IgA vasculitis?
Henoch-Schonlein purpura (HSP)
What are the risk factors for HSP?
- Male sex
- Aged between 2 and 10
- Hx of URTI
How would the rash in HSP be described?
Skin lesions - palpable purpura, typically non-blanching
Typically 2-10mm in diameter
Occur in crops
What is ITP?
Immune Thrombocytopenia
What does ITP mean?
There is a low platelet count due to an error in the immune system which increases the risk of bruising and bleeding.
When does ITP become ‘chronic’?
When an individual has ITP for 6 months and longer
