Mild purulent SSTI
Infection with no systemic signs
I&D only
Purulent
Furuncles, carbuncles, abscesses
Have yellow, thick crust when dried
Form by entering into minor wounds
Usually found where rubbing of skin/skin or skin/hair
Mild purulent SSTI treatment
No antibiotics required. I&D is usually enough to clear up infection
Moderate purulent SSTI
Failed primary therapy
Infection with systemic signs fever>38C
I&D +C&S
Moderate purulent SSTI treatment
Oral staph drugs:
Bactrim or doxycycline
I&D +C&S
Severe purulent SSTI
Failed moderate therapy
Meet 2 or more SIRs criteria
Or immunocomprimised (HIV CD4<200, transplant recipient, cancer with ongoing chemo
I&D +C&S
Severe purulent SSTI treatment
IV staph drugs:
Vancomycin, daptomycin, televancin,ceftraroine, linezolid
I&D+C&S
