Texts can have more than one purpose, give an example
biographies can be written to inform and entertain
fiction texts are often entertaining stories on the surface, but they contain another message, either to argue or inform
How may an entertaining tone may be formed in non-fiction texts?

- to pass on knowledge
- as clearly and effectively as possible

- e.g. age group or level of understanding

- aims to get readers to follow their suggestions
- calm and less emotional than writing to argue or persuade

- logical structure that makes the adivce easy to follow
- the register may be formal or informal
What is the writers viewpoint and how does it differ from purpose?
a viewpoint is what the writer thinks about the topics they’re writing about
wheras purpose is what they’re trying to do
