- John Field set up a classical system Presby based - underground movement based on enthusiastic clergy - links internationally
- National synods of the classis system were able to pressure parliaments
- Pressure on parliament to get ride of 1559 prayer book and replace it with Geneva prayer book

- Death of John Field - now lacked leadership and direction
- Puritan m.p’s not allowed to organise in parliament - no passing laws and imprisoned disobedient ones - Wentworth and Cope
