Punnett's Squares Flashcards
What is a mono hybrid cross?
2 x 2 square. One trait.
What is a dihybrid cross?
4 x 4 square. Two traits
Incomplete Dominance
Neither allele for a gene completely conceals the presence of the other
“they share the spotlight”
Co-dominance
Both alleles for a trait are expressed equally in a heterozygous, both are dominant
“they are perfect sharers”
Multiple alleles (blood types)
Type A = IAIA or IAi
Type B = IBIB or IBi
Type AB = IAIB
Type O = I I
Polygenic inheritance
When one characteristic is controlled by two or more genes
example hair color skin type
Sex linked traits
Carried on or transmitted by a sex chromosome
What is a Punnet Square?
A way for you to protect the possible outcome of the genetic cross.
They can also predict the ratio of the expected outcome of the offspring.
