Main events in the first Punic war
A
- the war was fought mainly between Sicily and Africa
- the Romans were superior warriors on land but they had no navy
- Carthaginians had very strong naval power
- the Romans found a Carthaginian ship abandoned and washed up on their shores, they pulled it apart to see how it was made and made replicas of it for their navy.
- Romans made Corvus which was a tool made out of rope which helped them board the enemy’s ship
- Rome made Corvus to board enemies ships because Romans were superior in hand to hand combat battles
