What does a colon do?
Introduces a quotation,list or expansion

Gives extra information or indicates a breaking off in a sentence

It comes between two statements that are closely connected or which balance or contrast with one another

It gives extra information in the middle of a sentence, used for humorous or an ironic tone
What does a hyphen do?
It links words together to produce a compound word
What does a comma do?
It separates phrases, clauses or items in a list
What does an exclamation mark do?
It ends an exclamation or suggests a loud voice in direct speech. It is used to indicate tone,humour,irony or surpise
What does an ellipsis do?
It indicates that a word is missed out or implied. It is used for suspense,humour or irony
