What is a comma ?
separates items, adds extra information, after a language of debate.
What is a semi colon?
separates long items in a list, balances 2 ideas, can join to 2 main clauses.
What is a colon?
introduces a list introduces direct speech.
What is an exclamation mark?
used after an emotive word, show volume.
What are parenthesis?
extra information, shows an aside or after thought.
What is a inverted commas?
direct speech, quote, indicates slang or foreign words.
What is a hyphen?
creates a compound word, shows word has been broken into the next line.
What is a dash?
additional information, afterthought at the end of the sentence, long pause for dramatic effect
What is an elipses?
to be continued, leaves something out, interrupting someone, thinking is taking place
What are italics?
foreign word, Titles, slang, editing
What is an apostrophe?
contraction/omission, possession.
What is an abbreviation?
shortened form of word (individual letters with fullstops)
What is an acronym?
first letter of other words which form a new PRONOUNCIABLE word.
