Pumping Formulas Flashcards
What is the handline friction loss formula?
((GPMxHSF)/10)-10= fl per 100ft friction loss
What is the equation to figure pump pressure for hand lines?
Ep= NP + FL + AV +- EL
EP= Engine Pressure NP= Nozzle Pressure AV= Appliance Value EL= Elevation
What are the hose size factors to figure friction loss in a handline?
1 1/2” = 4
1 3/4” = 3
2” = 2
1 1/2” = 1
What is handline solid stream rule of eight?
1”= 200 gpm
1 1/8” = 250 gpm
1 1/4” = 300 gpm
1 3/8” = 350 gpm
What is the nozzle pressure for a solid stream and fog nozzle?
Solid is 50 psi/80 psi master
Fog is 100 psi
What is maximum handline gpm ?
350 gpm
How many firefighters are needed to man a 125 gpm line?
How many for 250 gpm line?
How many for 350 gpm line?
125 gpm = 1 FF
250 gpm = 2 FF
350 gpm= 3 FF unless safely secured
What are the handline appliance value for gated wye and a stand pipe?
Gated wye = 10 psi
Standpipe= 20 psi
At what pressure do you pump standpipes at?
Nothing showing = 0 or 100 psi
Smoke and flame = 150 psi
What is the friction loss formula for master stream and supply lines?
Q x (Q -1)/ HSF
What are the hose size factor coefficients for master stream and supply line?
3”= 1
3 1/2”= 2
4”= 4
5” = 12
What are the master stream appliance values?
Siamese= 10 psi Triamese= 10 psi Portable monitor= single inlet 0 psi, dual inlet 25 psi Humat valve= 15 psi Deck gun = 25 psi Ladder pipes= 0 psi Forward pumpers= 20 psi
As a ladder truck operator what values do you add together to determine engine pressure?
Add together nozzle pressure, elevation, and appliance value.
What are master stream smooth bore gpm? (rules of eight)
1"= 200 gpm 1 1/8= 300 gpm 1 1/4= 400 gpm 1 3/8= 500 gpm 1 1/2= 600 gpm 1 5/8= 700 gpm 1 3/4= 800 gpm 1 7/8= 900 gpm 2"= 1000 gpm
Rule of eight: multiple bottom number to get eight, then take the number you multiples and multiple it to the top number and add 2 to get your gpm.
