1
Q
Stroke Volume and Pulse
A
Stroke Volume: 70 mL per beat
Pulse: The force of stroke volume causes arterial walls to widen and creates a pressure wave.
2
Q
Pulse Rate
A
Normal: 60-100 beats/min
Bradycardia: Less than 50-55 beats/min (common in athletes, stronger heart pumps more blood per beat).
Tachycardia: Over 95-100 beats/min (caused by anxiety, exercise).
3
Q
Measuring Pulse
A
What to Measure: Rate, rhythm, force, artery condition.
Time: Count for 30 seconds and multiply by 2. If irregular, count for 60 seconds
4
Q
Pulse Rhythm
A
Normal: Tempo should be even.
5
Q
Pulse Force
A
3+: Full, bounding
2+: Normal
1+: Weak, thready
0: Absent
