Pulp Flashcards
Pulp, 2 types
Soft connective tissue, supports dentin Coronal pulp Radicular pulp
Pulp Zones
Odontoblasts in pulp
Cell free zone (of Weil)
Cell rish zone
Pulp proper, central zone
Cell Free ZOne of Weil
Unmyelinated nreve fibers and capillaries
Space for odontoblasts to move pulpally
Cell Rich Zone
Mainly fibroblasts–> make collagen
Immune cells
- Macrophages
- lymphocytes
- dendritic cells
Whats in the pulp?
Loose connective tissue
blood vessels
nerves
fibroblasts
pulpal cells
Pulpal Innervation
Can only transmit pain
No propioceptors in pulp
Plexus of Raschkow (parietal layer)
-Mylenated and unmyelinated nerves
What types of nerves are in the pulp?
A delta fibers
C fibers
A Delta Fibers
Characteristics, pain transmitted, location
Myelinated sensory nerve fibers
Fast sharp, pricking pain
Located in coronal (odontoblastic) region of pulp
Make up 90% of nerve fibers in pulp
C Fibers
Unmyelinated
slow, dull, burning
diffuse pain
Sympathetic Fibers
Deep in pulp
Travel through trigeminal ganglion to innervate teeth
