Pulmonary Flashcards
1
Q
What does silicsis effect?
A
Macrophages
Affects upper lobes
2
Q
Pathogenesis of TB
A
Bacteria are phagocytosed by alveolar macrophages
TB has an ability to inhibit formation of an effective phaolysosome
In weeks after infection, APC cells display mycobacterial antigens to naive CD4 T lymphocytes
These differentiate into T helper cells that secrete INF gamma
INF gamma activates macrophages - these can kill the TB plus they grow into multimucleates giant cells
Release of proteases, NO, ROS kill the TB but damage the surrounding tissues
3
Q
What are some infectious complications of CF?
A
The thick mucous allows for growth of H influenza, staph aureus and then Gram neg rods such as pseudomonas.
