potion pump inhibitors
A
- reduces acid secretions in stomach by binding to H+ K-ATPase
- used for short term treatment of PUD and GERD
- adverse effects: headache, nausea, diarrhea, rash, abdominal pain
- can administer with antacids

H2 receptor blockers
A
- decreases stomach acid production by blocking H2 receptors in stomach
- used to treat PUD
- adverse effects: headache, decrease RBC WBC platelet #
- cannot administer within 2hrs of antacids

antacids
A
- anti-heart burn drug
- neutralizes stomach acid by increasing pH of stomach contents
- most effective in combination with other meds
- adverse effects: constipation, phosphate depletion
- aluminium antacids at least 2 hr before or after other drugs as it can decrease absorption
- combining with magnesium = diarrhea
