Who Are MCPS?

A

MCPS (Mechanical-Copyright Protection Society) collect mechanical royalties from the use of recorded works being used in various platforms such as TV, radio programmes, film, and web and distribute these royalties to the writers. The money collected from film or advertisments is called a ‘syncronisation fee’.

Who are PPL?

A

PPL (Phonographic Performance Ltd) collect royaltis on the behalf of the record companies and their performing artists. Any artist who has played on a recrding will recieve these royalties, whether or not they were involved in the writing process.

What Is a Music Publisher?

A

A music publisher protects and exploits the opyrights of it contracted songwriters. They collect the royalties from societies PRS and MCPS and distribute the repective shares to the songwriters. They also may may recieve royalties from printed songs for sheet music, or from licensing them out for inclusion in printed anthologies.
